📚 Understanding the Changes to PSLE in 2025

The PSLE English papers are evolving, and Luminee Learning is keeping pace with these changes. Our refreshed Visual Text Comprehension module is aligned with the 2025 PSLE format, where students will now encounter two distinct texts instead of the previous single two-page spread.

🔍 What’s New in PSLE Questions

The total number of questions has been streamlined from eight to five, and In the updated format, students are asked not only to read but to interpret meaning from combinations of visuals and text. Questions may target information from Text 1, Text 2, or require comparison and synthesis across both texts — there can be one or more such text-to-text connection items, asking students to identify similarities, contrasts, shared purposes, or implied conclusions.

💡 Why This Matters for PSLE

Beyond literal comprehension, the new format evaluates deeper literacy skills:

  • Recognising the main message
  • Understanding purpose, tone, and intended audience
  • Making inferences from layout, font, and imagery
  • Comparing and integrating meaning across different formats

These skills mirror real-world communication, where messages often span both visual and written formats and require synthesis to fully understand.

Tip for Parents: Have your child first explain each text on its own, then discuss how the two relate — what matches, what contrasts, and what one adds to the other. That mirrors the exam’s thinking process and builds the integrated comprehension the new format demands.
